Instead of "yum -y remove yum-fastestmirror", do the following: yum makecache --disableplugin=fastestmirror yum update  This allows you to continue using the plugin and work around it, instead of just blowing Yum Metadata Does Not Match Checksum Spent quite a bit of time looking before I found this! The fix is simple: yum install python-hashlib from either rpmforge or epel, which makes the necessary libraries available for yum to calculate the new checksums correctly.
